Ahead of other nations

I sincerely salute His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and all the UAE authorities for introducing this law to eliminate hate crimes and discrimination (‘New law bans all forms of discrimination in UAE’, Gulf News, July 21). This law verifies the true broad-minded and benevolent nature of the country’s leaders. I wonder whether such a law even exists in developed countries! Long live the UAE. Every country on the planet must learn from this and introduce such a law in their own land.

Provides equal opportunity

Wonderful news! This might help to provide equal employment opportunities in the labour market as well. It may enforce managers to promote and hire employees from all nationalities and cultures.

Promoting freedom

This is an example of why the UAE is one of the best nations in the world. Among other notable standards, the UAE’s leaders indeed made a great call, by promoting such rights across the country. I hope this might end the habit of residents and companies asking for only people from a certain nationality.

Changing outlook

Great! What a radical change from the traditional outlook in this world. This is good for the country and for the world.

A difficult task ahead

Racial discrimination is not just an act, it’s an entrenched nature. You can change the person, but you can’t always change one’s nature. One can educate one’s own citizens, but when it comes to expatriates arriving from different countries and from different backgrounds, it becomes difficult to ensure the implementation of such laws. Although it will be hard to know what’s going on inside the companies and who exactly is suffering, I wish the authorities every success.

Eliminate discrimination

I really do appreciate the UAE authorities for their efforts to eliminate discrimination, prejudice and stereotypes. It should all fall under the new law, especially regarding irresponsible people who post incorrect information about other groups of people. Thank you for this, it will make for a better UAE.

Racism in job ads

I hope that this law can also teach some of the job recruiters in companies, who put up advertisements stating that they only require people of a certain nationality to work for them (‘New UAE anti-hate law in detail’, Gulf News, July 21). This racism must be stopped. Every nationality is here to work. Every employer must only see talent and hard work, not ethnicity, background or religion. Respect must exist for all religions and countries.

Authorities will support us

To Mr Atif Younas, when I read this article, I immediately started to think about the same issue! The problem of discrimination is going on in all levels of employment, with regards to various recruitment processes. So, I agree. I don’t think we need to worry about this any more. There is an option now, if we see any discriminatory act, we can complain. The authorities will support us.

The right direction

Kudos to the UAE authorities for becoming a country that passes anti-discriminatory laws, while some others are travelling in the opposite direction. The clause of respecting other religions should be an eye-opener to all governments worldwide.

Respect all religions

I highly appreciate the implementation of this new law. Those who respect their own religion can, surely, respect the religion of others as well. Great decision.

We can live in harmony

I think it is better not to get into furious debates about religion with anyone who doesn’t understand one’s views. Let’s respect one another so we can live in harmony. Kudos to the UAE authorities for issuing this law. It’s a wake-up call for us all.
