A visit for peace
After assuming office, Trump began his first tour in the Middle East, to express his desire for better bilateral ties, not only in trade, but also in the eradication of terrorism (‘Trump wins warm welcome in Saudi Arabia’, Gulf News, May 21). His visit should bring understanding, peace and, above all, a strategy to end the long fight of the Syrian people. He should also demonstrate to the people of Middle East that he is a peace-loving person. I hope this visit will bring good ties between the US and Middle East.

Signs of strength and unity
We must all walk carefully towards a goal of world peace and respect for others’ beliefs. We must all be honest about our intentions and walk forward with love in our hearts. I believe that US President Donald Trump and the majority of Americans want peace. It is an honour for America and its new administration to receive a warm welcome from Saudi Arabia and its people. Respect for other cultures is a sign of strength.

A welcome visit
Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia should be welcomed by one and all (‘In Riyadh speech, Trump calls for isolation of Iran’, Gulf News, May 22). Whatever motives were involved in his visit, it was an overture by the most powerful executive in the world to an Arab country, and it deserves mention. One hopes that positive results will follow. One’s hope is that Trump will follow it up with more meaningful visits to developing countries, both in the Gulf region and Asia.

Stop blaming others
If Trump really wants to stamp out terrorism, he needs to orchestrate justice within the world. He can’t keeping blaming someone else’s religion. We can’t keep creating hate between countries. There needs to be an immediate end to hidden funding for terror groups.

Treatment of Muslims
Trump has given a clear statement in his visit to Saudi Arabia. Hopefully, in the future, he will stick to his words, because in the US, Muslims are being portrayed incorrectly and facing discrimination. In order to achieve mutual respect, the US government needs to tackle how they treat Muslims in the US.

A motto for home
Dubai Municipality’s initiative, involving training for chefs so that they use less salt and oil in dishes, is welcome. Excessive use of salt and oil is the main reason for some modern lifestyle diseases like diabetes, obesity and hypertension. ‘Eat healthy and live healthy’ is an initiative from the Dubai Municipality and this should be the motto for all households. At home, we should reduce the use of oil and salt. This should be a part of our life and should be instilled in future generations. Let us aim to become healthy people, with fewer diseases and a happy life.

Stop fake news!
Recently, I read an article in Gulf News regarding what to post and what not to post on social media (‘Do not circulate fake donation messages’, Gulf News, May 19). I totally agree with the view that there should be restrictions for what should be posted. The reason for that is, there is a lot of fake news being spread. In this new technologically advanced world, people depend on social media for everything — from news to invitations and even information about funeral prayers. So we have to be very careful about what we post. Often, we see fake news about celebrities or people who are famous. We, as common people, do not know if the news is correct and forward it to our friends. Later on, we find out that the news was fake, but it’s too late by then. So my suggestion is that the people who spread such fake news should be brought to task, and there should be restrictions on what can be posted. We should have strict controls, especially on videos being posted, as some of them contain vulgar elements or communal elements. Social media should be used as a platform to spread peace and useful information among individuals.
