Staff need proper training

We welcome the Dubai municipality’s move to enforce strict rules for shawarma stalls (‘Strict new rules for Dubai shawarma shops coming up’, Gulf News, April 8). I would suggest one more thing to be added. I have seen in almost all the shawarma stalls that the staff are sharpening the knife with the sharpening tool and then without wiping the blade with a tissue, they simply cut the meat.

When you are sharpening a knife there will be small micro parts of metal will be sticking to the knife. If you wipe the knife after sharpening, you can find the stain in the tissue. So the Dubai municipality should take this also into account when they are training staff at food outlets.

Worried about shawarma price hikes

In simple words, shawarma is one of the only foods that was affordable by everyone. So, I worry that these new rules will hike the price of that, too!

Sending money to Pakistan, cheap and easy

I don’t think there is a fee for sending money to Pakistan if you send it through certain banks (‘Which countries are the cheapest to send money to?’, Gulf News, April 8). Moreover, some money exchanges also remit money to Pakistan free of cost. Also, if you remit money to Pakistan by legal channels, the government of Pakistan gives incentives on airport duties and free urgent passport renewals. I think these are the privileges that Pakistanis enjoy in the UAE.

Make dental hygiene affordable!

If dental clinics are expensive in the UAE, how is everyone supposed to afford it (‘Oral cancer ‘not uncommon’ in UAE’, Gulf News, April 8)? People hardly go to the dentist when they have a problem with their teeth. The authorities should do something about this with oral cancer on the rise.

Shocking cruelty killing a cat

Many people will be interested to know that the two people who decided to burn a cat to death for killing their pigeons received well deserved punishment for such a horrible crime (‘Bahrain: Man detained for burning trapped cat to death’, Gulf News, April 8). It’s shocking cruelty, especially considering the fact that these two accomplices planned the act and carried it out together.
