Not a representative of our society

As a Lebanese, I am utterly appalled and disgusted by “The Shallow Sisters” (“‘Lebanon’s Kardashians’ found to be ‘boring’”, Gulf News, May 20). They do not represent the smart Lebanese women, actually they’re not even close. Shame on us for becoming followers. Shame on us for even allowing such a programme to see the light of day, with a concept that is based on the Kardashians. The three sisters represent the stereotype of narcissist women who fail to see beyond their image in the mirror.

Give him some time

This is in reference to a letter by Mr Girish R. Edathitta regarding India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi (“Letters to the Editor - Modi: Has he failed his people?”, Gulf News, May 20). I wish to state that we cannot jump to the conclusion that Modi’s government has failed its people. Rome was not built in a day. Big things take time to happen. The past government hadn’t done any thing for its people. I am not favouring Modi’s government, but one must wait at least five years for results.

Fear of losing out

Healthcare seems to be a business (“Focus: Overprescribed”, Gulf News, May 22). As there are targets to achieve, doctors have to meet a certain number to be eligible for incentives. Prescribing tests helps attain these numbers. Some of them, especially the new recruits, would be worried about safeguarding their licence. They practically function by an aforementioned to-do list and refuse to deviate from it for fear of losing their job or incentives. Money speaks and this noble profession is not spared either.

Are you covered?

The moment a doctor finds out that the patient is covered by insurance, I have noticed that he or she will prescribe a lot of medicines.

One solution for everything

I would say, doctors under-prescribe medicines. They seem to know only paracetamol for each and every case.

Falling prey

Doctors seem to have a specific quota and target to achieve, and the innocent and unsuspecting patients fall prey to it.

Trial and error

There is nothing like examination and diagnosis these days. It is more of a trial and error treatment!

Course of medication

Incomplete treatment leads to drug resistance. That means the next time the medicine won’t work for you. Stop blaming doctors and complete your course of medicine, if you don’t want the disease to return!
