No more wars
I am unclear as to why so many people want to bring war into all of this (‘Al Assad’s UK-born wife ‘defends Syria crackdown’,’ Gulf News, February 7). Can’t sanctions or something be done to make President [Bashar Al Assad] change a few things around so that no more civilians are killed? I know it isn’t that simple in the Arab world, and I see the viewpoint that a regime wants to stay in power — it isn’t always possible to topple leaders in every nation for the sake of what looks greener on the other side. I have no clue what the people of Syria are experiencing, and may God be with all who tread on His land.

Life’s trials
As we are all given life in this world, I believe that we are all — not only these parents — put on a trial (‘Dubai Police convince couple to take home disabled baby’, Gulf News, February 7). However, this trial depends from one person to another — for some it is to do with wealth and for others it is to do with health or offspring.
For me as a father of two, I do understand the difficulties that these parents are going through, but I know that God knows best and have faith that He will make their lives better.
They should have a strong belief in this. I also request all Muslim brothers and sisters to pray for these parents. May God help your offspring to be healthy and wealthy.

Lead the way
Dear parents, please consider your baby as God’s gift. If you are given this child, then you will be shown the way to succeed. Everything will work out. Bless you.

Hope for the best
I am a father of one child and my wife recently had a miscarriage, which was tragic for us as we were eagerly waiting to welcome a new baby, but it is God who gives and takes back. We should not get upset because of this. Our prayers are there for the child to have a beautiful life.

Passing the test
I believe that this world is a test for everyone. Whoever passes this test will have a huge reward waiting for them. What if you were born with disabilities? We have no control over such things and these are tests in this world. May God help all of us in passing such tests in this world.

Unacceptable
Being a mother I was shocked to see this report. I can very well understand what the parents are going through, but to me leaving your own baby is not acceptable. I congratulate the government bodies that have taken up this case and given assistance to the parents.

Care for each other
I feel so sad for all the victims (‘Philippine rescuers dig for survivors of deadly earthquake’, Gulf News, February 7). It was just last year that the Philippines saw the worst typhoon that killed so many innocent people. Now, here comes the earthquake. I just pray for all the victims. I feel so sorry for all their loved ones. It’s time for us to show some love, respect, help and care for each other at least.

Moving forward
This is an old-fashioned system (‘RTA adds more value to Nol cards with new feature’, Gulf News, February 7). The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) should give users access to use Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled devices (data exchange or communicating by bringing devices into close proximity) or could even give access to all RTA services using thumb impression. There are plenty of cards in my purse and I use them rarely. I think that the UAE has to move to a more digital life and advance identification systems.

Amazing talent
The Pakistan team rocks (‘Resurgent Pakistan script golden chapter with victory’, Gulf News, February 7). This is an outstanding display of character and pure talent by this young team to beat the world’s No 1 team by a whitewash. This shows that even without fast bowlers, Pakistan has amazing talent in the bowling department, given that there is a good pitch to bowl on. This series was a treat to watch.
