Let girls fly

Let girls learn (“UAE girl’s experiment launched into space”, Gulf News, August 16). Education is the first step towards women empowerment. We have talked about human rights for years, let’s talk about female rights. A woman is the strength of building a family, society and nation. Girls are like birds but their wings are clipped in many situations. The society creates a doubt in every girl for dreaming big, puts them in a little box and constrains them. Girls have the ability to tackle pressing problems in society. They can even be a president or prime minister. Millions of girls are still uneducated and do not go to school. Break the rules. Let the bird fly.

Ronaldo not wrong

Considering the history between Real Madrid and Barcelona, some referees will be biased (“Ronaldo handed five match ban for referee push”, Gulf News, August 14). They have their own reservations and shortcomings, but in reality, their job is hard and some of them are just not competent enough for these intense games. It’s high time a third referee should be consulted like in other field games, who is equipped to reverse or correct the decision of the referees on the field. As far as Cristiano Ronaldo is concerned, he did not look like he was feigning an injury. What instigated the referee were his antics. The Football Association would definitely side with the referee based on the rule books. But, many of us believe that Ronaldo was not pretending. The referee got it wrong. People can complain about the push, but that would not have happened had the referee not made the wrong call.

Not in his favour

I am not a big fan of football or Real Madrid, but the way they play and pass the ball is just amazing. They practise every day in different countries and different weather conditions, yet they are capable to perform great against their opponent. It is important to control your temper in all situations during a game. Keeping the team spirit and your A-game on the field is the best weapon and power for you to gain respect from your fans. But, any sort of violence will lead to a bad reputation and a penalty. What happened with Cristiano Ronaldo was a typical reaction from a player who is trying to score and finds out that a red card has been raised. We all know that sometimes players do fake a fall, but sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. Unfortunately it wasn’t in Ronaldo’s favour this time.

A safe Abu Dhabi

I am delighted to read that Abu Dhabi is the safest city in the world, with the lowest crime index of 13.54 (“Abu Dhabi safest city in the world”, Gulf News, August 15). I’m blessed to have lived there for 30 years. Abu Dhabi is achieving many milestones and will ultimately reach the top of the world.
