Innocent people caught in the crossfire
These poor people in both Pakistan and India should be treated well (‘Pakistan frees 78 Indian fishermen’, Gulf News, July 10). They are working hard for their families. Believe me, they don’t want war, they want a better life for their families. They should not be detained more than one or two days. No one can imagine the loss even when a labourer is forced to skip one or two day of wages from work, let alone weeks. What happens to his children? Have some mercy on those children who sleep without food when their parents don’t get wages!

At a great expense
It is a great move by the Abu Dhabi police to fine motorists for stopping to examine accidents. Many a time those huge traffic jams are not caused by the road accidents, but by the curious bystanders who choose to block the entire road. Over the lines of cars that get held back due to a few motorists, it is the police and ambulance forces that get delayed to reach the accident site.
I believe that such stricter traffic laws must be implemented in nations all over the world, for in today’s fast paced world, time is the most important commodity that we cannot afford to lose.

No visa hassle!
I just got my daughter’s visa and I didn’t need to go to immigration (‘Getting visa and passport for your baby in the UAE’, Gulf News, July 10). Everything was done in the authorised typing centre. Application and approval are all done within 24 hours only. I suggest to try bringing all the necessary documents to the typing centre. If it was like my experience, you will receive an SMS first that the application was submitted online and the next SMS will be about the approval. With regards to stamping, the typing centre did this also with just additional Dh50. I faced no hassle and I’m a single mum here speaking!

Time wasted
The family is partly to be held responsible for the woman’s death since they had delayed rushing her to the hospital and instead asked the victim to bite the snake several times (‘Woman bites snake in tit-for-tat attack, both die’, Gulf News, July 10). The time they took to catch the reptile and then make the victim bite it repeatedly could have instead been utilised to rush her to the hospital and save her life. People need to understand that in such cases, medical attention is more important for the patient than seeking revenge.

Other ways to avenge
Biting is natural for snakes. She should have killed the snake with a rod or brick if getting revenge was so important. There is first aid around, as we do in Pakistan in such circumstances. Hospitals are not always at our doorstep.

An ancient superstition
There is a belief that if the snake has been bitten back by the poisoned one, the toxicity will get reduced. It’s an ancient civilisation belief. This is because of the illiteracy and lack of educational awareness among the people. Politicians are trying to make as much as money as they can once they are elected that they won’t even look back to their people. The people are always voting for the same person.

The poor child
This woman was my friend and as I know she was a very good woman (‘Indian nurse found dead in Karama flat’, Gulf News, July 10). As the report suggests, there were some issues between her and her husband. What we need to think about is that poor baby girl who lost her mother.
She should have lived for her child. It doesn’t matter what is happening between her and her husband. Rest in peace. Peace and happiness is first, then comes the rest.

Confide in God
May her soul rest in peace. I just wished she hadn’t chosen suicide as the last resort. She should have at least thought of her child before killing herself. If we are faced with a lot of problems, it’s never too late to confide in God, because His love for us is unconditional.

In difficult times
All of you are right, but even if she had someone to share with, it’s painful. They need to put themselves together, let the anger calm down. Even have a thought for those with disadvantages. A mother’s rights
We don’t know the complete story, but the mother has a complete right in Islam to even re-marry if she wishes (‘College student stabs mother twice after domestic dispute in Dubai’, Gulf News, July 10). However, the son, one the other hand, has no authority to abuse or hinder. Some people are just sick in their mind.

Anger issues
Anyone who gets angry will do certain things that he is not supposed to do. Many of us will say bad words or even attack in anger because they can’t control it. It’s sad to hear such acts, but it’s their family matter and they must have personal problems. He shouldn’t have raised a hand to his mother, let alone a weapon. He might get punished from the authorities as he deserves. I believe he likely needs help and rehabilitation so he can get over his anger issues.
