Indians need to stand up for freedom!

This is happening because even literate and educated people are not raising their voice against this matter (‘India mob kills Muslim teen in beef row, one arrested’, Gulf News, June 25). The government should have a punishment for all these mob killers! Unfortunately, this is not the case and they actually seem to be supporting these goons!

Urgent action needed!

India is suffering from home grown terrorism. The inherent bias and dislike of a few, which has been fanned by the political parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has become open and shameless hatred. They better do something about it before the situation gets out of hand.

Hypocritical

It is really a sad episode and it happens in a few villages, not every place in India. I agree that this is totally wrong. Food is a person’s personal choice – to each their own belief. It’s all quite hypocritical for a secular country like India to allow this to happen.

It’s an excuse

This is all a pretext to justify killing minorities. Leave Muslims alone. When millions of cows are being slaughtered for beef exports by fellow Hindus, not a single Hindu moves to save cows. Now almost daily such incidents are displayed in the media.

Cricket highlights

A lot has been written about the Indian-Pakistan match for the Champions Trophy finals and Gulf News has given generous space in the Letters to the Editor column, as well (‘Letters to the editor: Trophy win, great feat for Pakistan’, Gulf News, June 23). One important aspect in the match was not mentioned by many a cricket enthusiast. Hardik Pandya’s glorious knock was a glimmer of hope for Indians in the match. The way he was hitting cleanly three consecutive sixes and then two consecutive sixes was pure joy and was the only bright spot for India. Old timers were reminded of Kapil Dev’s match winning effort in the 1983 World Cup against Zimbabwe. The premature and unfortunate end to his innings were a sight to forget. The shrewd and smart cricketer, Ravindra Jadeja could have sacrificed his wicket and could have done a world of good for team India. Indians are very upset with the selfish act of Jadeja and it will take a considerable amount of time for us to get over this incident. Congratulations to Pakistan for a fantastic win!

Destabilising isn’t possible

These drones are meant for safeguarding Indian borders from non-state actors coming in (‘Drones on shopping list as Modi visits US’, Gulf News, June 24). These are not weapons, which are to be aggressively used against any neighbour. How on Earth this is going to cause so-called “potential destabilising impact in South Asia”? I wanted to highlight that I found this a very lopsided and senseless view. It’s up to readers to interpret it.

A threat to the world

The death of the 21-year-old Otto Warmbier after being sentenced to 15 years of hard labour by North Korea is another barbaric and atrocious act by the North Korean regime (‘Death of American detained in North Korea baffles experts’, Gulf News, June 21). US President Donald Trump’s administration has already flayed the North Korean regime for Warmbier’s death, but they did not impose further sanctions. The charge was that Warmbier had stolen a propaganda poster from his hotel, which is a punishable offence in North Korea. The punishments handed over in the capital, Pyongyang, are the most appalling and something unimaginable. They are growing into a real threat to the world not only for the various missile tests that they have done, but also for the various executions carried out in their country. It would be better for people who visit North Korea to adhere to the rules of that country and avoid landing into any unnecessary trouble.
