Great people never forget their heritage
The great venue of Al Jahili Fort was selected for this sparkling ceremony of the Aga Khan award, which is a great example of Islamic architecture in itself (‘Six projects win Dh3.67m Aga Khan Award’, Gulf News, November 7). It was built by the grandfather of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founding father of the UAE, in 1890s. This award was presented by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who’s great visionary strategy has helped bring the UAE to the top in the world, in many fields. The owner of this award is Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims who always speaks about pluralism, Islamic culture and civilisation, global warming, diversity and unity.
This award is presented after every three years and is a great recognition of superior work done in the field of Islamic architecture worldwide. It will keep alive and encourage the building of rich Islamic cultural alliances with modern technology for future, which emerges with great and unique works in architecture showing Muslim civilisation. This is our cherished identity. This award is not working merely on the criteria of architectural structure in itself, but it also highlights those structures that help all surrounding communities from different cultural backgrounds.
Among six winners, three of the awardees were women architects, which is a great example of women’s contribution in every field. Women are working shoulder to shoulder with men and this is a great example of true Islam, which gives full opportunity to women.
Great people and communities never forget their culture and civilisation. The UAE is one among those and all credit goes to our great leaders. Hats off to them.

Must be a record
The UAE is the only country that I know that has developed so much in such a short span of time (‘Facebook live: Ride the ferry with us on the Dubai Water Canal.’, Gulf News, November 10). I has been here 20 years, and it has grown so much that it must be a world record.

A decision for their countries
The UK and the US both made the best decisions for their respective countries (‘Celebs express anger over Trump victory’, Gulf News, November 10). Well done to their people and I hope that those who don’t understand will at least try to respect this decision.

Reality TV?
Donald Trump’s fans selected him just like they select celebrities on reality television shows. I guess this can still account for public opinion. Everyone deserves a chance!

Spreading fear in community
After three days, the body of a teenage girl was found in a field in Faisalabad, Pakistan while doctors and police confirmed the victim was gang raped before being murdered. The victim’s father, Nazar Ali, informed police that his daughter Razia had left for school on November 5, but did not return home. When the school administration and her classmates were asked, he learnt the girl did not reach school in the morning and might have been kidnapped.
The police started investigating and following, after three days of hectic efforts, her body was found in a field within the limits of Tandlianwala, Pakistan police station.
Police investigations and autopsy reports confirmed that the victim was killed after being sexually assaulted.
After the incident, a wave of fear and panic spread among parents and students of the village, who expressed concern over the situation. Police Inspector Bashir Ahmad, who had been assigned the investigation of the case, said four suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the gang rape. We can only hope action is taken against the culprits. They have devastated a family and thrown a village into panic.

Take care
Beings with neural troubles, babies and puppies mostly should be supervised while eating (‘Girl, 11, chokes to death in Ras Al khaimah’, Gulf News, November 10). Semi-solid foods should be prepared for them. My three-month-old puppy died due to choking because she ate her dog food too fast.

People’s lives at stake
We must always be careful what doctors we can trust (‘Hospital warned after man lapses into vegetative state’, Gulf News, November 10).
In the UAE, I have found that the government hospitals have a lot of experience in serious cases and managing them well. I always see someone behind, checking on every step of the doctor because we are talking about a patient’s life.

Exercise caution
This is a terrible tragedy and I have, unfortunately, experienced something similar on a personal level, which left my family and me devastated. Yet, the hospital brags about its quality healthcare and doctors. It’s a decision I regret every day. People please exercise caution and I pray no one else goes through this experience. My prayers are with the family, and I hope that something works out for their betterment soon.

In the industry
There are those doctors who really care regardless of your status and nationality. I’m a nurse by profession and I have experienced how it is to be misdiagnosed myself. It helps when you’re in the medical field, but it gives me the creeps to think of others who were given the wrong treatment. I don’t know really.

A long, painful story
For one year I have had shoulder pain and I visited eight doctors from different hospitals. I spent one year drinking a medication without seeing any results. The medicine I drank made me fat. They even told me that I have a back bone problem and that my disk is moved. I had an MRI and an x-ray with no conclusions drawn.
Once I asked a doctor if the medication will cure me and he said that if the medication doesn’t work that he would give me another. He added that when he gives me a medicine that he can’t promise that when I walk downstairs that I won’t fall. In that moment I thought the doctor is sick – not me.
Thanks to God, I found the perfect doctor for shoulder and neck pain. With this doctor when I told him what I had been drinking, he said that it wouldn’t help me because it was only a pain killer. All I needed was an injection. May God bless this doctor.
