Dubai Civil Defence restoring smiles
This is such a beautiful gesture by the officials at the Dubai Civil Defence to have gifted a cat to a resident who lost her feline family member in a blaze (‘Watch: Dubai Civil Defence surprises woman who lost pet cat in fire’, Gulf News, July 19). It is very thoughtful and considerate of them. The efforts of the team to restore a smile on the owner’s face are commendable. They have surely won hearts.

Helping animals
Dubai Civil Defence has done much lately to help animals. Remember the cat on the highway or the dog with its head stuck in the gate? Now this – and this gesture did give an adult cat a new home. Well done.

Will there be justice?
The abduction and molestation case against the Malayalam popular movie star Dileep is burning in the air (‘Dileep arrest: Enough evidence to nail actor, say police’, Gulf News, July 20). When the bail application came up before the court, the prosecution said it needed time to study the case. All are keeping their fingers crossed to hear the verdict on this bail application.

The giant leap for mankind
US National Moon Day was observed on July 20 and it commemorates the day man first walked on the moon in 1969. Commander Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon. He said the historic words: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 landed with the first people to reach the moon. Americans astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made it. Aldrin spent slightly less time, but together they collected 47.5 pounds of lunar material to bring back to Earth. Michael Collins piloted Apollo 11 and remained alone in orbit until Armstrong and Aldrin returned.

Working into my 70s
I admire this man, as I just turned 65 years old and everyone tells me: “Go on the old age pension!”
No way (‘Airline mechanic spends 75 years in same job’, Gulf News, July 20). I have worked in the oilfields most of my life and I am 100 per cent certain that I have at least another 10 years of work left in me.

Pressure to retire
My father would have worked much longer than 65 years old had he been given the chance. He was a senior partner and had, a long time ago, signed a contract that he would retire at 65. He fought it because he wasn’t ready to stop – he really loved his job. But, eventually he did retire as the pressure from other partners was too much.

A new attraction in Dubai!
Dubai’s golden bridge will be another attraction and it will definitely be another tourist spot (‘Dubai’s golden bridge will be ready by year –end’, Gulf News, July 17). We are eagerly waiting to see the 360-degree view of old and new Dubai. This frame will add one more to the existing hot spots like the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Garden Glow , Dubai water canal and many more. It is expected to be inaugurated towards the end of 2017. Congratulations, Dubai for introducing new concepts!

God save Indian cricket
This is in reference to the Gulf News report that India’s national cricket team coach, Ravi Shastri, has his way to pick his assistants for coaching batting and bowling (‘Ravi Shastri: Core team will work towards 2019 World Cup’, Gulf News, July 19). It is really a shame that one of our most technically dependent batsman and best pace bowlers were found wanting by the new coach. The success of Shastri is not only a humiliation of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan, but even to the elite members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), who recommended their names to the board. So long as we have spineless board and Committee of Administrators (COA) and CAC members, our legends will have to face such humiliations. God save Indian cricket!
