With the controversial announcement of WhatsApp handing over mobile numbers and information to Facebook, Gulf News reported on the legalities of the privacy policy and how you can stop your information from being shared. According to the page A2 report, ‘WhatsApp under fire for Facebook tie-up’, published in the From the cover section of Gulf News on August 29, you can customise the privacy policy by unchecking a box to stop the exchange.

Gulf News asked readers if they read the fine print. Nearly seven out of 10 respondents said they don’t. It’s clearly time to start paying attention.

Companies like WhatsApp have always emphasised their stance on privacy. Only earlier this year was their new encryption feature rolled out. Unless the Terms and Conditions privacy policy is being looked through, client information will soon be given for the purpose of advertisements and finding more Facebook friends.
