A beautiful gesture towards a fellow co-worker

I was at a hypermarket a few days’ ago, when I witnessed a very heart-warming incident. I was purchasing some hot food from their food section. After serving me, the Filipino woman started to serve one of the cleaners from the hypermarket. He was purchasing a basic meal of some rice and a curry. She asked if he had enough credit in his card to pay. He seemed to have understood and said he had. I gathered that she was referring to an employee card that gave them the privilege of employee discounts on their purchases. She once again asked if he needed her card to pay, but he said he had enough. She then asked how much he had in his card and he said that he had Dh11. She calculated his purchase and handed him her card. She asked him to use it for any balance payment and return the card to her.

What stood out was her warm attitude. She seemed to really care about his purchase. Other than the fact that they were both working for the same hypermarket, they were not in any way remotely related. He was Asian and she was from Philippines. There were language barriers. But her attitude and gesture was praiseworthy. I thought to myself if such was her attitude towards a fellow employee, I am sure she would shine while handling customers.

Kudos to her attitude and gesture.

Let’s stick together

This has gone too far now, Daesh does not represent the Muslim faith nor are they real Muslims (‘Seven killed in London terror attack’, Gulf News, June 5)! A true Muslim preaches and practises peace and love for others, especially to non-Muslims as well. We also must remember there are over seven billion people on this planet in which more than two billion of them are Muslims. Daesh has killed more true Muslims than non-Muslims. We can’t let the actions of a few mad men who claim to be Muslims and who don’t represent the creed make the world think that all Muslims hate everyone, because that’s not true. It’s important that Muslims and non-Muslims band together in solidarity to fight against extremism. We don’t think all Christians are KKK members, so why should we think that all Muslims are terrorists?

Must be united

Nearly each country in the world is a terrorised country! There are many relatives of victims saying: “You won’t make me hate.” This is great, these are strong people who know that if we don’t stand united, we will not make it. They know that as long as we just blame each other and discuss about who cares more and whose worth and value is rated higher, the seed of hate will grow.

It can’t be a solution to say that as long as they don’t care, we don’t care. There’s no “they”. It’s our world and our friends dying in senseless acts of terrorism as in senseless wars.

Bunch of lunatics

You really can’t expect what you will wake up to anymore. They are a bunch of lunatics. Killing has become so easy for some. It’s scary even to imagine being present when such incidents happen.

Ramadan on social media

Ramadan is the month of blessings. It is also the month in which people post pictures of their iftars on social media, make ‘dates’ jokes, they Snapchat their prayer experience and last but not the least, become exceptionally religious. But is this right? I strongly believe people should always keep such faith in God and be punctual in their prayers. What is the point to suddenly become faithful and then after Ramadan, turning to avoiding prayers? I don’t think it’s right that people are turning such an exceptionally spiritual time into a social media trend.

Prayers for the family

I offer our condolences and abundant prayers to the family of the little boy who was murdered so brutally (‘Man arrested in 11-year-old boy’s murder’, Gulf News, June 6). May God grant him the highest place in heaven and patience to his family. Especially to the parents... the mother was in the city visiting her son. It’s extremely disheartening.

Not about nationality

I would have the same sentiments towards the murderer if it was a Syrian, Russian, American, Indian or a Pakistani, and I wouldn’t take this opportunity to raise my nationalistic feelings, as some Gulf News Facebook readers have said. It is shameful what people of all nationalities do to each other. This was not a matter of anyone blaming one community. Yes, the community and nationality was highlighted, so that other members of their nationality can take actions and create awareness.

Strength to the family

Good and evil unfortunately exist everywhere and it is not in any one nation or community. I pray that the Almighty gives the strength to the dear ones of the innocent child in this difficult time.

Unbearable loss

May God grant the family some peace to make sense of this horrific act against them. Their anguish must be unbearable. God grant the boy a place in heaven and bless his family.

No need to judge

There are bad people everywhere. It’s not about nationality or which country the man came from. If anyone does something bad, that is his choice and there is no need to judge the people according to their nationality.

Keeping us safe

Qatar is supporting and is involved in different terror organisations, so this is a step for security to protect the people in the UAE (‘Saudi, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt cut ties with Qatar over terrorism’, Gulf News, June 6). Everyone wishes to live in peace! We should be thankful that the UAE authorities try their best to keep us safe.

Causing problems

If Qatar wants to cause problems that will affect others, the UAE and Saudi Arabia should try to stop them immediately. God Almighty will also help and find solutions to it.
