News is too negative

Lately, we have been seeing Gulf News report all sorts of negative news stories about the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Is the newspaper also joining that anti-Modi bandwagon in India?

Recently, there was a news report about the Indian government’s plan to acquire old palaces (“New ‘enemies’ of the Indian state, Gulf News, April 29). In the report, the writer quoted Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Shashi Tharoor, a man who has been accused as the murderer of his wife.

Firstly, we have never read or heard any hue and cry raised about this matter in the Indian media.

Secondly, what is wrong in acquiring old properties that are lying idle, like ghost houses? I don’t know who is paying for their security and maintenance — perhaps it is the Indian government.

Then, in another edition, Gulf News printed negative news on the front page without checking the facts. Do the editors know about the infant mortality figures in Somalia and Kerala, India? If not, please find out — it is shocking.

Please start publishing reports about the development program the Modi government is working on, in just two years. It will provide sufficient material for the next few months.

We did not expect this from Gulf News. Be impartial and give maximum positive news.

The article on old properties was based on a new law, which empowers the Indian government to acquire and sell properties once owned by people who migrated to Pakistan. These properties are not abandoned and are owned and occupied by their descendants who are Indian nationals. Over 5,000 such properties will be affected in 19 states. The story quoted Shashi Tharoor, who is an elected Member of Parliament. He is not charged in any murder case by the police or court.

Regarding the comment on infant mortality figures in Kerala, news is negative or positive depending on how it is perceived. Gulf News believes in reporting facts. When India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kerala and compared the state to Somalia, people started talking about it. Kerala’s Chief Minister wrote an open letter to Modi about the issue and it went viral on social media. This is what the newspaper reported.
