Sharjah: A delegation of top young minds across the region met to help shape the future protection of environment and heritage across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena).

Sharjah organisers of the Young Global Leaders programme welcomed a delegation of 30 Young Global Leaders (YGL) from the region on May 24—25 as part of the YGL Strategy Meeting 2016.

The youth were hosted to “build community spirit and foster mutual understanding. The activity formed part of the emirate’s support for young leaders and saw the delegates take part in a series of workshops, activities and tours in a number of locations throughout Sharjah”, said organisers in a statement on Thursday.

The delegation was accompanied by Mena region’s four YGL champions — Shaikha Budoor Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq); Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs; Shaikh Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi, Founder of the Barjeel Art Foundation; and Badr Jafar, Chief Executive Officer of Crescent Enterprises.

Under the theme ‘Future of’, delegates were greeted at a dinner at Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-Tourism’s Archaeological Centre by Shaikha Budoor and Shaikh Sultan.

Delegates also toured Sharjah Centre for Space Sciences and Astronomy’s planetarium, located at University City of Sharjah, and the Arabian Wildlife Centre in Sharjah to witness its captive breeding programme for endangered Arabian wildlife.

Delegates visited Sharjah Art Museum and Air Arabia headquarters before moving on to explore other emirates in the UAE.
