Dubai Visitors to Jumeirah Lakes Tower (JLT) will have to pay for parking once Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) activates all parking barriers there, said a DMCC official.

In an e-mail statement to XPRESS, DMCC said it will activate barriers from July 14. “Visitors to JLT will have to pay for parking after DMCC completes the parking barrier activation on all its clusters,” said Mathew Lomax, Director, Property, DMCC.

He said every cluster in JLT will be given ample visitor parking spaces keeping in line with the residential and commercial make-up of the buildings.

Cluster B of JLT will be the first to have its parking barrier activated. Cluster D will follow suit on July 29. “Parking for rest of the clusters will be gradually streamlined,” said Lomax.

JLT is home to 50,000 people living and working in the development. There are 61 commercial and residential towers, four lakes, six playgrounds and over 100 retail outlets within the development. Currently, there are no restrictions on parking. However, with parking barriers raised, all JLT occupants will be given access cards for their vehicles to enter and exit the development.

“The move to install parking barriers in JLT is part of our commitment to our sub-developers who have acquired the rights to parking facilities according to international urban planning guidelines,” said Lomax.

There are three types of parking within JLT — parking garages directly under the towers; DMCC-owned parking garages on the upper concourse level and three basement parking levels of every cluster; overflow parking areas and on-street parking outside clusters within the JLT development. Visitors will have separate parking in DMCC-owned parking structures.

DMCC added it has installed security cameras in JLT to increase security within the community.
