Kareena and Saif Ali Khan are definitely wished all the best for their new life together. They seem like the happiest couple right now. But the case is not the same with neighbours who live around the corner from the couple.
Contrary to the quiet sophistication and civic sense that one expects, people who live in the vicinity are not impressed with Kareena or Saif. And unfortunately, their opinion equates to: “These film stars have invaded our neighbourhood of Bandra and really don’t care about the people living around.”
This somewhat angry joint opinion stems from the fact that the couple’s pre-wedding festivities created a ruckus. Apparently, the night before, music blared from their 11th floor penthouse, much to the consternation of the neighbours. Allowing for the fact that it was a wedding, people smiled indulgently until their rudely disturbed sleep via Saif and Kareena’s raucous party. Complaining to the police was of no good, since neighbours spotted policemen right below their building, who didn’t appear to be concerned by the decibel levels from the Khan penthouse.
As if this wasn’t enough, Diwali celebrations brought the same kind of noise. While it’s true enough that everyone around was celebrating the festival as well, the bigger and louder fireworks seemed to echo from the direction of the Khan house.
Ironically enough, not long ago, Saif was upset about the intrusion of his privacy after a security guard allowed paparazzi to get pictures of his pre-wedding party from a neighbouring terrace. He even had the man fired from his job. Then again, Kareena and he moved into the building across the road, since he felt he didn’t have enough privacy in the earlier building.
People also complain of Saif being hot-headed, with a tendency to pick fights. They are a little nervous of his flaring temper. (And this opinion is not unfounded, considering the recent fracas when he hit a senior citizen and his son at a five-star hotel.) On the other hand, Kareena has a reputation for being quiet. Having lived with her mother Babita and sister Karisma in Bandra for several years now, not once has one heard of any trouble. A Bebo friend who wishes to remain anonymous says that “her only consternation is Saif’s habit of flaring up at the drop of a hat. She’s so cool as a person and likes to live and let live.”
The latest ugly occurrence involving the couple seems to have been a recent awards show. The couple was to first perform solo items and then perform together – their first appearance as husband and wife on stage. But the awards function saw Bebo performing at the nth hour with TV actors Gurmeet and Ritwik, minus Saif. Kareena told people that her husband was not present since he was not well.
A well placed TV bigwig who’s close to the organisers, however, has a different tale to tell. Allegedly, they were left floundering when Saif apparently decided that he didn’t want to do their show after all. So practically at the last moment, he reportedly returned the fee they had paid him and did a no-show.
One can only hope that the ‘cool’ Bebo now convinces him to remain as cool as she is.
