DUBAI: A Dubai-based food blogger, Fathima Mansoor Ahmad, has designed a special children’s menu for the Movenpick Hotels and Resorts chain.

Called Power Bites and available at Movenpick hotels worldwide, the menu is aimed at encouraging children to eat healthy.

Fathima, who started blogging a little more than two years ago, was picked for the task following an online competition earlier this year. In all, the South African expat has created 25 dishes.

Child’s play

Fathima, who has over 35,000 followers on her Instagram account, says she tries to cook food that is not only healthy, but is also exciting to look at. “Feeding kids isn’t difficult if the plate looks interesting. I try making their food as colourful as possible,” says the mother of three.

When Fathima was approached by Movenpick in April, she used her children as bunnies for the experiment. “I tried a lot of dishes on my children keeping in mind every child is different. My recipes were then altered by chefs at Movenpick to appeal to their little guests,” she says.

Of the 25 dishes, every Movenpick Hotel serves at least six depending on the chef’s preferences. “In Ibn Battuta for instance, we have two meat options and a berry cheesecake. In Bur Dubai, we have two vegetarian options and a soup,” says Peter Drescher, vice president – Food & Beverage for Middle East, Africa and Asia at Movenpick Hotels and Resorts.

“We have some really talented chefs, but we thought a mum would be the best person to help us with something kids would enjoy,” Peter says.
