Dubai: Dubai’s first purpose-built outdoor yoga facility is now open at Marasi Bay, Business Bay, with free classes on offer until the end of the year.

A collaboration between Dubai Properties, the leading master developer, and Piloga, a Dubai-based yoga and Pilates studio, the Yoga Hub is also the region’s first open-air swing yoga facility. It has a pergola-style steel structure that can hold up to 15 swings at a time. Among the forms of yoga that are being taught at hub are Vinyasa, Yin and Swing Yoga.

According to a spokesperson of the hub, “Dubai Properties marked the start of the Dubai Fitness Challenge with the launch of the city’s first purpose-built outdoor yoga facility. The destination can host free yoga classes for up to 150 people four times a week until end-2017 with the aim of motivating Dubai’s residents and visitors to make fitness and exercise an integral part of their everyday lives.”

Spanning 3,000 square metres of green space, the all-new recreational zone is located along the Dubai Water Canal right at RTA’s Marasi water taxi station with easy access from Al Abraj Street and Marasi Drive.

Commenting on the popularity of yoga in Dubai, the spokesperson said, “Yoga is a workout that holistically approaches both physical and mental well-being. It is proven to improve brain function, reduce stress levels, lower the risk of heart disease and promote an active sense of wellness. With studies showing increasing levels of obesity in the UAE and stress becoming a common complaint many Dubai residents are adopting a healthier lifestyle where the multi-pronged benefits of yoga has tremendous appeal.”

The spokesperson said all classes are free of charge and open to the public. Those interested can register via email at info@pilogastudio.com and carry along their own yoga mats.

While the Swing Yoga classes run every Sunday and Tuesday, the Vinyasa Yoga sessions will are held every Monday and Wednesday. Both sessions start at 7pm and are conducted by Piloga instructors.
