Sharjah: For more than a year a father had been looking for a man who had molested his eight-year-old daughter in Sharjah’s Al Mahatta park. This week he found him under the most unusual circumstances.

In a bizarre quirk of fate, the Algerian bumped into the Iraqi molester when he landed in jail on a bounced cheque case.

Unknown to him, his cellmate was serving time for a string of molestations. But when the Iraqi was called in a suspect line-up and identified by a young boy for a sexual assault case, the Algerian was reminded of the incident involving his daughter.

He immediately contacted the jail authorities and requested a fresh suspect line-up for his daughter.

Last Saturday, the child and her mother Hanan were called to a Sharjah police station where the girl pointed at the Iraqi, who now faces fresh charges.

Hanan later told XPRESS: “I am so relieved he is off the streets. A year ago, my children had gone to play at Al Mahatta Park near our house in Al Qassimia when they were approached by this man. On the pretext of racing with my daughter, he took her to a deserted corner of the park and molested her.”

“He attacked her and tried to take her clothes off. When my daughter screamed, he ran away. The police was called but he couldn’t be caught. Now the law has got the better of him,” she said.
