DUBAI Dubai-based Maxtalent Global Sports players are excited about the prospect of having a day-long session with former England captain Alec Stewart as they left for a 10-day UK tour.

The under-13 and under-16 teams will also be playing 11 friendly matches against top clubs in Surrey besides a visit to the Lords cricket ground.

“It’s a great opportunity for the boys. Alec Stewart will conduct a day-long master class wherein he will be offering his expertise and also giving motivational talks. We are just waiting for a final confirmation from him,” said Sudhakar Shetty, managing director of Maxtalent Global Sports.

Unique experience

The teams will play matches against Parkside School, Reeds School, Old Whitgiftians Cricket Club, Stoke D’Abernon Cricket Club, Cobham Cricket Club and Star Cricket Academy.

“While the under-16 team will play six matches, the under-13 teams have five matches. They will also have a session with Star Cricket Academy’s head coach Sid Lahiri.

“This tour will give the boys a unique experience of understanding the art of swing bowling due to the conditions out there. We are confident of putting up a good show, and positive results will do a world of good to these youngsters,” Shetty said.

“It also makes kids take responsibilities. As soon as they arrive in the UK each one of them is assigned a task and they have to execute it,” he added.

Amidst the busy schedule, the team will take a day off to tour London and visit the Lords cricket ground. “That’s the perk for the boys. They are excited about it,” said Shetty.

This is the third overseas tour Maxtalent Academy has undertaken this year.

“We already have done tours to Muscat and Mumbai earlier this year and to South Africa last year. Next year we are contemplating on taking our boys to Australia. Exposure-wise it’s a great place to go for young cricketers.”
