Abu Dhabi: Imagine an iftar feast where you can stuff your face without adding that extra layer of fat around your waist.

Yes, it is possible if you are digging into an organic iftar at Traders Hotel at Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi.

This fat-free healthy alternative to your regular end-of-fast meal is available at the hotel’s signature restaurant Afya, which means ‘health’ in Arabic.

Starting at Dh140 per person, the iftar has an extensive selection of dishes prepared from organic ingredients.

Executive Sous Chef Rickey Rimenda said he has put together a menu for the health conscious diners without compromising on taste.

Try the fresh local burrata and halloumi kataif or organic rack of lamb with grilled vegetables and couscous.

Side dishes include organic grape tomatoes, organic flat breads and wild arugula. And for dessert you get an impressive selection of local and seasonal fruits.

“We often overlook the health implications of fasting during the holy month and at Traders we encourage people to eat right and exercise regularly. It’s important, especially when fasting, to ensure that we are getting the essential nutrients from our foods,” said chef Rimenda.

“In the UAE 19 per cent of the population is diabetic and we want to highlight the importance of a balanced diet. Organic iftar is the first step,” said chef Rimenda.

Afyä restaurant is located on the ground floor of the hotel. Organic iftar is available daily from 8pm till midnight.
