Dubai: It's never too early to plan for the next long weekend, the soonest one happening will be in September.
Ebrahim Al Jarwan, an astronomy expert and general supervisor at Sharjah Planetarium, has already made his calculations, and predicts that this year’s Eid Al Adha will fall on Friday, September 1, 2017.
The Eid celebrations will last for three days, giving residents a three-day break from work.
Al Jarwan explained that the Islamic month of Dhu Al Hijja 1438 will start on Wednesday, August 23, which means that Arafat Waqfa Day will fall on Thursday, August 31.
Arafat Day takes places on the ninth of the month.
In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid Al Adha takes place on the 10th day of the 12th month.
At the end of the Hajj – annnual pilgrimage to Makkah – Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid Al Adha, which is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.
During the Hajj, Muslims remember and commemorate the trials and triumphs of the Prophet Ebrahim.
Prophet Ebrahim, the Quran said, had a revelation that Allah commanded him to sacrifice his son to Him, and he informed the son, who told his father to carry out the command of Allah.
It was while carrying out the wish of Allah that a ram was sent down to Prophet Ebrahim as a sacrifice for his son, Esmail. It is that act that Muslims celebrate till date to show submission to Allah.
