Dubai: A young boy’s dream came true when he donned a pilot’s uniform and sat in the airplane’s cockpit with the captain.
The Sharjah Consultative Council, in cooperation with Air Arabia and Sharjah Airport Authority, granted the wish of Zayed, an Emirati orphan, who wanted to become a pilot.
“The captain taught me how to fly the plane. The amazing thing about flying is that I can control the engines and other devices, as well as the gear and the brake,” said Zayed, 11.
On its Facebook account, Air Arabia posted a video of how Zayed became a pilot for a day, which has received over 420,000 views since it was uploaded on February 14.
The video was accompanied with the caption: “To celebrate the Year of Zayed, Air Arabia, in collaboration with the Consultative Council of Sharjah and Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation, made young Zayed’s dream of flying come true.”
Air Arabia made that wish come true when young Zayed visited the Air Arabia headquarters and learnt how to fly in a simulator.
“Zayed had always wished to fly, especially during his holidays. He had a dream to fly an airplane or be inside one, and sit with the captain,” said Khaled, Zayed’s older brother, who accompanied him to Air Arabia’s head office.
Zayed was then taken on a tour inside an airplane, and sat with the captain of the aircraft, as he listened and learned about what it takes to become a pilot.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation said that Zayed was then presented with a license so he could follow his dream of flying, and become a member of the pilot buds programme.
At the end of the tour, Zayed was also given tickets to perform Umrah.
