Dubai: The Victory Team is keen to put in a request before world governing body for powerboat racing, the UIM to allow teams to manage their own fuel quota at races during the season.

The opening round of the 2017 UIM F1H2O World Championship in Algarve, Portugal witnessed just nine of the 21 boats finishing the race.

It was later found that the fuel supplied by organisers had led to several engines caving in during the race, with Team Abu Dhabi possibly the worst hit while losing four of their five engines over the weekend in late April.

“I wish the organisers would allow teams to carry their own fuel at races,” Huraiz Bin Huraiz, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Victory Team, told Gulf News.

“In case they do allow teams to carry their own high-quality fuel then the engines can be better protected and we can have more reliability during racing,” he added.

The second round of the 2017 UIM F1H2O World Championship will be held in Evian, France on July 1-2 while the third race is scheduled to be held in Harbin, China from August 11-13.

“This is only a request to the organisers, and I wish they will allow teams to carry their own fuel. I believe they should open it up for teams and make things even more interesting,” Bin Huraiz said.
