Dubai The second edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) will see several young players turn out for Karachi Kings, who finished fourth in the inaugural edition.

The team, coached by Mickey Arthur, announced their squad for the five-team tournament last week in Dubai where they included upcoming talents like Abrar Ahmad and Abdul Ameer.

“I supervised the talent hunt in Karachi and the selected players deserve the opportunity to showcase their talent on an international platform,” the team’s newly appointed director, Rashid Latif told XPRESS on the sidelines of the franchise’s press conference also attended by owner Salman Iqbal, West Indian star Chris Gayle and former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik amongst others.

Malik, who led the Kings in 2016, will be succeeded by Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara.

England all-rounder Ravi Bopara who captained Kings in a losing cause last year has hailed the team’s spirit ahead of the tournament. “The camaraderie in our camp is simply amazing and I am looking forward to winning matches for Karachi Kings,” he said.

Zalmi, Emirates T20 sign MoU

Meanwhile, EmiratesT20, that is scheduled to be held in Dubai on March 23 and 24 next year, will see budding cricketers of the Peshawar Zalmi Foundation promote ‘cricket and culture’.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two parties on October 20 at the Nassima Royal Hotel. The Zalmi foundation is a talent hunt camp that focuses on nurturing and grooming young cricketers from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA region of Pakistan. It is part of Peshawar Zalmi, that finished third in the inaugural PSL.

“We are thrilled to join hands with Emirates T20 to work for the betterment of cricket in the war torn regions where the youngsters have been traumatized by war for over three decades. It would be very motivating for the aspiring cricketers from the area to get such an international exposure,” said Javed Afridi, president of the franchise.
