Al Ain: A record heatwave has been set as cities continue to bake under the summer sun across the country.
The Dubai Meteorological Office said the weather on Friday will continue to be very hot and dry, with the temperature to hit a high of 46 degrees Celcius and a low of 35 degrees Celcius.
People in Sharjah, in particular, have been tolerating the season’s harshest conditions with temperatures shooting up to 49.3C — the highest recorded in the history of the city.
“Wednesday was the hottest day I have seen in the history of Sharjah,” said one forecaster.
He said people needed to stay out of the sun and reduce their outdoor activities, especially those fasting during Ramadan.
Conditions were even tougher in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi on Thursday where temperatures reached the 50C mark.
According to forecasters, Wednesday was the hottest day in the country. Forecasters recorded 47.4C in Dubai, 47.2C in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, 47.4C at Al Ain International Airport, and 44.6C in Fujairah.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the weather will continue to be very hot and hazy over the weekend.
There is a chance of cloud over eastern and southern areas in the afternoon.
Winds are likely to be light to moderately rough in general but could get strong at times causing dust clouds in internal areas. This could reduce visibility. The sea is expected to be slight to moderately rough.
The maximum temperature during the weekend is likely to be 37C to 46C in coastal areas, 45C to 49C in internal areas, and 31C to 37C in mountainous areas.
