Hopefully, Justin Trudeau will be able to unite Canadians
It doesn’t happen often, but after Canada’s election results came out, the world was buzzing about Canadian politics and ‘Trudeaumania’ Part Two. Justin Trudeau, son of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau who ran Canada for 15 consecutive years, was elected with a majority government. Former Trudeau supporters hope Justin can pick up where his father left off and that he can unite the duo-national and multi-cultural country. It shows once more how the world loves to have hope for a brighter future.
When any young hopeful is thrown into the spotlight with the perceived power to change the world for the better in matters of better international relations, tolerance, peace and environment, we as a global community cheer for them. We cheer for them because it’s our silver lining in the depths of despair when we flip the pages of the newspaper day after day and see so much death and destruction, intolerance and hate.
Trudeau has his work cut for him and the world is watching to see what he will do. If we set aside the nitty gritty of politics on issues of economics, environment and foreign affairs that become highly sensitive issues, I at least hope he is able to unite Canadians. We all have our different opinions on how a country should be governed, but I believe a good leader listens to all and breaks down the divide between conservative and liberal Canadians. Differing opinions makes for a healthy democracy. For too many years it has seemed that a word one way or the other cannot be said without being met with anger and offensive remarks from opposing perspectives.
