Dubai: Heavy fog blanketed parts of Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi early on Saturday morning causing poor visibility on the roads.
Dubai Police urged drivers to be safe and take their time.
“We call on all drivers to be cautious and to drive safely and leave enough distance between vehicles due to heavy fog and unclear visibility,” read a tweet from the official police Twitter account, @DubaiPoliceHQ.
Light foggy conditions were also reported in Dubai late on Friday night.
Road users must slow down, use low beam lights, maintain double the normal safe distance and generally drive safely, according to guidelines from the Roads and Transport Authority.
A motorist told Gulf News visibility on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road was almost nil when he hit the road early on Saturday.
“I couldn’t see a thing in front of me. What usually takes me five minutes to drive from my flat to the main highway took me 15 minutes today because of zero visibility,” Francis said.
Former English cricketer Alan Wilkins (@alanwilkins22) on Twitter said: “Breaking News! The Burj Khalifa has disappeared! The world's tallest building is gone from sight! Heavy fog in Dubai for today's Cricket.”
Vibhu batra (@VIBHUISM) tweeted: “It’s such a chilly, foggy morning here in Dubai with almost zero visibility. Reminding me of Delhi's mornings. #DubaiFog”
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said the fog should clear as the temperature increases, becoming a pleasant day.
