Sharjah: WD-Challengers recorded a double triumph in the Alliance weekend tournaments held at the Hamriyah grounds.
The organisers had staged two tournaments at the ground — one for Friday and another for Saturday — naming it as the Alliance Friday Bash T20 tournament and Alliance Saturday Bash T20 tournament.
WD-Challengers were in top form and raced to title triumphs remaining undefeated in both of the tournaments. They registered eight consecutive victories.
This tournament received huge sponsorship support with Pocari Sweats, Gulfgate, Roasters, Armaf perfumes, Colatta Chocalates, Fast Stroke Sports, Global Computers and Alliance Group all getting involved.
Eight teams played in both tournaments with Maidan Tech as the Web Partner and CricHQ Was as Data Partner with scores being flashed immediately.
Captain Ram Narisetty of WD-Challengers received Alliance Friday Bash T20 and Alliance Saturday Bash T20 trophies along with the cash awards from the Alliance Steering Committee.
At the prize giving ceremony, organiser Ajmal Masahir announced that the organising committee is now planning to expand the tournament from a weekend event to a tournament which will run round the year.
In the Alliance Saturday Bash T20 tournament final, WD-Challengers defeated Leeds Cricket Club by six wickets.
Leeds Club posted 199 for 7 through Ron Michael’s 98. WC Challengers chased the score in a very systematic manner through Sujith Suvarna’s unbeaten 63 and Ram Narisetty’s unbeaten 29. Naveen Kumar of WD Challengers won the best batsman and man of the series award while Vinod Nair of ARSCC won the best bowler award.
In the Alliance Friday final, WD Challengers defeated Smashers Club by 147 runs. Batting first, WD Challengers posted 263 for 5 in 20 overs. Sheridan Hadfiled cracked 99 backed by Jerin John with 73 runs. Chasing the target, Smashers could muster only 116 in 16.2 overs.
Naveen Kumar also won the best batsman award in the Friday bash event too, while Sudakar Varadarajan of Delight Kings won the man of the series award. Ankit Pandey of ESG XI was adjudged best bowler.
