Dubai: Waqas Ahmad of Multiplex International has spread fear among all bowlers in the ongoing Ramadan tournaments. He has scored centuries in Sharjah Ramadan tournament and Dubai’s Dulsco Ramadan tournaments. He may have also hit a century in Umm Al Quwain Ramadan tournament and remained unbeaten on 80 as his team reached the winning target.
Waqas’ whirlwind centuries are often studded with huge sixes. He has hit more sixes than boundaries in most knocks and reached his centuries in 50 balls.
The result of his stupendous form is that Multiplex has reached the quarter-finals of the Sharjah Ramadan tournament and is set for a clash against Alubond Tigers on Wednesday night.
Speaking to Gulf News, Waqas said: “I have been in Dubai since 2007 and must have hit at least 30 centuries. In Ramadan tournaments, I have always scored heavily but the form I am in now is my best.”
Waqas began with a century against Ramada Hotel Ajman in the Sharjah Ramadan tournament at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, cracking 101 from 50 deliveries.
That innings contained 10 sixes and five boundaries. Multiplex defeated Ramada by 92 runs.
Waqas’ second century was in the Dulsco Ramadan tournament at the Zabeel Park against Hypertech Hologram. His remained unbeaten on 112 off just 50 balls with 12 sixes and five boundaries. Multiplex defeated Hypertech by seven wickets.
In Umm Al Quwain, Waqas remained unbeaten on 80 against Emitech Technical Services. His knock came off just 24 balls with six sixers and nine boundaries. Multiplex won the match by ten wickets, with Waqas’ partner Syed Ali Zeeshan scoring an unbeaten 31. Waqas hit 80 of the 117 runs and helped Multiplex win in just seven overs.
Multiplex beat Bukhatir XI by 110 runs also due to Waqas top scoring with 60 which came off 34 balls with five sixes and five boundaries.
“I enjoy going for the big hits once I find myself in rhythm,” added Waqas, who has hit 33 sixes from the above knocks.
