Sharjah: Skyline University College (SUC) cricket team, which dominated one of the oldest Inter-University Cricket tournaments, recorded their 10th title triumph last week. In the final, they defeated Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST) by 15 runs.

Batting first, SUC posted 133 for nine while SZABIST could muster only 118.

S. Afsan of SUC won the Man of the Final award while Player of the Tournament was awarded to SUC’s Khalid Shah.

Sanjay Benjamin, the Head of SUC Sports Department said: “SUC teams winning streaks over the past few years have carved out a niche for them in inter university cricket. It is their commendable and unwavering passion to the sports that have led them keep winning the title. Every player pushes themselves a lot during trainings and practices.

Eleven universities from all over UAE participated in the tournament such as Murdoch University, Amity University Dubai, University of Wollongong University Dubai, Manipal University Dubai, Middlesex University, American University of Sharjah, Institute of Management Technology, Gulf Medical University, Bits Pilani Dubai, and Canadian University Dubai.

Meanwhile in Ajman, the Mulk T20 Cricket Cup held at Ajman Eden Gardens grounds and MCC grounds Ajman under the auspices of Ajman cricket council started off with a match played between UAE-One Stop Tourism and Alubond Tigers. One Stop Tourism scored 226 for five in 20 overs, while Alubond chased the target and won by two wickets in 19.4 overs.

One Stop Tourism posted 226 for five, courtesy UAE one-day skipper Rohan Mustafa’s 97 in 59 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. Umair Ali hit 30 runs off just nine balls while Mohammad Usman’s 50 came off 17 balls with two boundaries and four sixes. Alubond Tigers scored 227 for eight through Mohammad Qasim’s 68 in 37 balls and Amjad Gul 47 in 27 balls and Sultan Ahmed 43 in 18 balls.

In the ninth Al Dhaid Gold Cup, Hancke Rauenstrin bagged four wickets while Shiraz Ahmed smashed a brilliant half century and guided Sharjah Cricket Club to a seven-wicket victory over Unicon CC.

For Sharjah CC, Hancke bowled a splendid spell claiming four wickets in his three overs conceding only 24 runs. Chirag Suri hit a 38-ball 40 including six boundaries while Shiraz Ahmed smashed 75 from 36 balls with eight hits to the fence. Rohit Singh carried on the good work through an unbeaten 44 not out form 37 deliveries to ensure victory.
