Dubai: Sharjah Cricket Council will reach out to fans and domestic cricketers through its newly launched website.

Launching www.sharjahcricket.ae at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium yesterday, Waleed Bukhatir, vice chairman of the Sharjah Cricket Council, said: “Sharjah cricket has a diverse history and it is an absolute necessity to have a dedicated website. It ensures awareness about the Sharjah stadium, the council and its activities.”

Council officials decided to reach out to cricketers by creating their website as a busy season is ahead of the council, with a lot of activities lined up.

Mazhar Khan, Sharjah Cricket Council secretary, said: “We conduct a lot of activities and we wanted the players as well as lovers of the game to know them. We realised that a website will be apt for it. This website will give complete coverage about the activities of the Sharjah Cricket Academy, Al Dhaid Cricket Village, Sharjah Health and Recreation club and its facilities inside the stadium.”

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium is gearing up to host matches in the Pakistan-England series in October, with a Test match and a One Day International scheduled to be held there.

“Another big benefit of the website will be that fans can purchase tickets for these international matches directly from the website through Ticketmaster,” said Bukhatir, who is also chairman of the Al Dhaid Cricket Village, where Sharjah Cricket Council hosts a lot of its domestic matches.

The website has also provision for domestic teams to register online.

“We will be putting out all information about new tournaments to be conducted by Sharjah Cricket Council. At a time when the internet plays a huge role in everybody’s life, we felt it is important to reach out to the fans through social media,” Khan said.

“Sharjah cricket has ensured that it can be accessible to its fans through various social media handles like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and a dedicated Youtube channel, which will stream live domestic matches.”

The website shows the logos of sponsors of Sharjah Cricket Council activities and also proudly displays the Guinness World Record symbol, which was awarded to Sharjah Cricket Stadium for hosting the highest number of One Day Internationals in world cricket.

The scores of all matches held under the auspices of Sharjah and also details of women’s cricket activities are available on the website.
