Dubai: Dubai Building Material Supply Company (DBMSC) emerged as champions of the Y-Axis Indoor league held at the Lenovo Insportz stadium.
In the premier division, DBMSC defeated Fujitsu Falcons by 50 runs. Falcons won the toss and opted to bat first and got off to a reasonably good start with their opening pair adding 23 runs in the first three overs. The game turned on its head in the fourth over, which was bowled by UAE indoor team star Sameer Nayak. He went on to take five wickets in the over. From there on, DBMSC never let the Falcons team get back in the game, ultimately restricting them to 33 runs in their allotted 16 overs.
Chasing the relatively easy target, the strong batting line-up of DBMSC went for the kill and scored 83 runs in the allotted 16 overs.
Team manager Amit Chaturvedi, expressing his happiness over the team’s performance, said: “The team has been under fire in recent weeks as we are missing our keys players through injuries. One of our star players, Rohan Mustafa, who is also the UAE national team captain, is away playing for ICC World Cup qualifiers. We have always ensured that we have a strong bench strength right from the start and I am happy the reserve players have stood up to the challenge and won us the cup. All credit to the team owners, S. Nilesh and Sumeet Shewakramani, for persisting with the team and supporting them in all possible ways to reach this level.”
Nayak, who has consistently displayed the ability to bowl tight spells in indoor cricket, was adjudged the man of the finals for his excellent allround performance. Isuru Umesh picked up the best bowler award for his impressive showing through the tournament.
Elsewhere, in the ongoing Al Taher Spices Cup, Jotun Paint and Thrifty Rent A car registered identical nine-wicket wins in the Al Taher Spices Cup at the Ocean Fair Sports Club Grounds in Dubai Investment Park.
In the first match, Jotun Paint defeated Ocean Fair Sports Club by nine wickets despite Ocean Fair Sports Club posting a fighting 142 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Basit Ali top scored with 30, with support from Marlon Malcom (29) Ram Nayran 25 n.o and Freddy Sidhwa with 17 runs. Jotun made light work of the target, overhauling it in only 16.3 overs. Vishnu Ramesh hit an unbeaten 66 while Naveen Gohti scored 56.
In another match, Thrifty Rent A Car scored a big win by restricting Deutsche to 98 in 15 overs. Munzoor Muroaf topscored with 34 while Adnan Afridi and Mohammad Sabir picked up three wickets each. Thrifty then raced to the target in only six overs with Mushtaq Khan cracking an unbeaten 52.
