Dubai: The Maxtalent Global Sports has commenced its tenth edition of the inter-school and inter-university Vision Cup.

The boys and girls under-13 and under-17 events is being played at the Skyline University. Speaking to Gulf News, Sudhkar Shetty, the Head coach of the Maxtalent cricket academy, who envisaged this tournament, said: “A record number of 38 teams from five emirates and 532 school students aged between 11-17 years are taking part in this year’s tournament. The first edition of the Vision Cup was played in 2007 with just four teams and it has come a long way within a period of 10 years. Boys and girls, who have participated in this tournament, have gone on to represent UAE like Shorey Chopra, who participated in eight editions, Saurabh Gir, Jay Joshi in six editions, Rohit Singh in five editions and UAE women’s captain Charvi Bhatt have played in four editions of the girls events.

The girls’ tournament began with Our Own English High School, Sharjah and GEMS Modern Academy, Dubai recording impressive victories in the league stage of the tournament held at The Winchester School.

Maxtalent Global Sports had recently flown in a contingent of 45 cricketers on a weeklong tour to the Oman and competed in the MGS — MCCC Challenge Cup in boys under-11, under-13 and under-16 age categories. This event was organised by the Muscat Cricket coaching Centre, under the aegis of Oman Cricket.

Maxtalent Global Sports were crowned champions in the boys under-11 category. They defeated Muscat Indian School in the final. Maxtalent under-13 failed to qualify for the final, but gave a good account of themselves by winning three out of the four matches.
