Dubai: A century and a four-wicket spell lit up the start of the second edition of the Dubai Cricket Council’s Weekend Slammers at the International Cricket Council Academy grounds.

Syed Haider of Mideast Metals cracked an unbeaten 102 to help his team record a nine-wicket win over Roaring Lions, while Shiva Pagarani of Dubai Mammoths, with a spell of four wickets for 23, helped the team win against Lions by 55 runs.

Kunal Jain of Rowdy XI produced an all-round show scoring 45 runs and taking two wickets to help his team defeat The Strikers by 23 runs.

Veteran Pagarani, who bowls off break has launched his 34th year in UAE domestic cricket in style. In April this year, just before the conclusion of the last domestic season, Pagarani had produced a spell of 6 for 30 against GM Cricket Academy to help Old Hawks win the finals by 66 runs. Pagarani would have notched up his 13th five wicket spell in domestic cricket had he taken one more wicket against Lions. He was well supported by Davendra Taneja with three wickets for 24 to help his team bowl out Lions for 105 runs in 20.2 overs.

Haider’s knock of 102 from just 58 balls contained 10 boundaries and four sixes. This knock was so quick that Mideast chased Lions total of 172 for 9 (made in 25 overs), winning the match in 18.5 overs.

This is a six-team single round-robin tournament for amateur and lower divisions clubs only.
