Dubai: The Dubai-based EIDS (Efficient Inventory Distribution Solutions) Cricket Club will become the latest UAE academy to take part in an overseas tour after it was confirmed they would visit Sri Lanka in September.

Organisers hope the young players will return stronger through exposure against top Sri Lankans clubs and by playing in different conditions. Tariq Butt will be the team manager.

Majid Bashir, who along with Khurram Noman started this club in 2000, told Gulf News: “Our aim is to play matches against different clubs in Sri Lanka. We will train well for the tour and embark on it from September 10 to 18.

“We need to explore the talent in Sri Lanka and compare our cricketers’ talent with them to understand the areas we will need to improve. We also want to know how to perform in different conditions.

“We are planning our tour early because we want to be competitive. EIDS CC has qualified and trained team members who play professional cricket throughout the week. We take our net practice seriously to keep a check on everyone’s fitness and to observe the technical attributes of the players,” added Bashir, who is an ICC-certified Level One coach.

The club has received sponsorship support from Saqib Bashir of EIDS General Trading and Mohammad Rafeek of sports equipment and clothing suppliers Four Triangle General Trading.

EIDS has participated in many major tournaments organised by the Sharjah and Dubai Cricket Councils and is keen to become stronger next season.

“We have been ranked as one of the top performing teams in Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah. We have recently introduced and groomed many young, talented players. We want players from different nationalities to play for us and we assure them of giving equal opportunities to everyone,” added Bashir, who can be contacted on majid.bashir@hotmail.com or on 055 6755335.
