Dubai: Desert King Waterproofing team finally got their reward for persistence by winning the 14th edition of the UAE National Day Cup.

They defeated Ocean Fare International Sports by 14 runs in the final at the OFI Cricket Ground Dubai Investment Park.

This tournament which is organised by senior UAE Umpire Tariq Butt to celebrate the nation’s 44th National Day is among the oldest tournaments in Dubai. Butt organises Pakistan, India Independence Day and UAE National Day tournaments to bring the communities together.

Desert King were also the champions of Indian Independence Day tournament, a two-decade old tournament in Dubai.

Batting first, Desert King set a target of 87 for their opponents. Fahad Tariq scored a crucial 33 runs supported by teammates Ayoub (23) and Abdullah (22 not out). Chasing the target, OFI Sports managed just 59 runs for 5 in the seven-a-side cricket full day event. Rashid top scored with 22 runs for OFI, with Hasnain scoring 16.

All prizes were donated by Deepak Arora of City Diamond, who have been sponsoring the tournament for the last 14 years along with Freddy Sidhwa of Seven Seas.
