Dubai: Dubai Building Material Supply Centre (DBMSC) Steel team won two successive Ramadan indoor tournaments to prove their might in indoor cricket with their all-round skills. They emulated the Multiplex International Cricket team, which won two outdoor Ramadan tournaments in succession.
DBMSC which became the Gold Division winner of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Academy’s Sprite Ramadan Cup tournament also won the United Pro Sports indoor tournament beating Gumnam team by 17 runs in the final. DBMSC had beaten Knight Riders by 23 runs in the final of the ICC Academy Sprite Ramadan Cup tournament.
Speaking to Gulf News, Saqib Nazir, the skipper of the DBMSC team said: “It was indeed special to win two Ramadan indoor tournaments in a span of two days. Though we have been in the finals twice, especially in the ICC Academy Ramadan tournament, we could not win it. This year we not only won the ICC event but also another final in United Pro Sports and it shows our team’s perseverance to win top tournaments.”
Nazir, who attributed his team’s success to the presence of all-rounders in his team, revealed that in both the tournaments they remained unbeaten in all matches.
A delighted team manager Amit Chaturvedi said: “It was a great performance by the team to lift two trophies in two days. The team has been doing well over the past few months. We would like to thank directors S. Sumeet and Nilesh Shewakramani of DBMSC Steel company who have stood by the team in our ups and down. Finally the team has shown its potential and I hope to see the boys winning many more titles in future.”
DBMSC received the winners’ trophy and cash prize of Dh4,000 while runners up Gumnam got Dh2,000 and trophy. In the plate final match, One Republic lost to Cardtoons.
