Umm Al Quwain: Advantage Motors stamped their supremacy in Twenty20 tournaments in Umm Al Quwain, winning a second successive T20 title in events organised by the Umm Al Quwain Cricket Club.

Advantage Motors’s success in the Umm Al Quwain Ramadan T20 Bash came after they recently won the Umm Al Quwain Twenty20 league. In the Ramadan tournament final, Advantage Motors defeated Willows Cricket Club by seven wickets.

It was a special win for Advantage Motors to win the Ramadan tournament as 32 teams had contested the event. UAE player Mohammad Naveed was the star of the show with a probing spell of 4 for 23 and also scoring an unbeaten 41.

Naveed’s spell restricted Willows to 159 runs despite Adnan Khan’s knock of 42 before Advantage Motors raced to the target in 14.3 overs with UAE’s in-form all-rounder Rohan Mustafa smashing 54 runs off 31 deliveries. Naveed’s unbeaten 41 came off just 19 balls with six boundaries and two sixes.

Though this tournament started off during Ramadan, it could not be completed in one month’s time due to the overwhelming response to it.

Speaking to Gulf News, Mushtaq Ahmad, the chief organiser of the event said: “We staged 63 matches in this tournament and hence could not complete the tournament by Eid. Night cricket is turning out to be a hit here and clubs are demanding more tournaments.”

The Umm Al Quwain Club made the tournament all the more special by giving away individual prizes that added extra spice to the contests. The award for the highest number of sixes and fastest century was bagged by Hafeez Kalim of Chargers Club, who was also adjudged the best batsman.

In all, Kalim hit 23 sixes and his century came off just 32 balls. The fastest fifty was hit by Syed Maqsood Hussain of Zulekha Cricket Club – off just 16 deliveries. The best captain award went to Mohammad Yasir of Multiplex International. Mohammad Amir Shahzad of Malek Contracting bagged the best bowler award. Jiju Janardhan of Tea Junction Fanatics was adjudged the man of the series. The organisers also honoured Haroon Ahmad of Multiplex International LLC, who hit 165 off 65 balls for the highest score of the tournament. Zawar Farid of Advantage Motors won the best catch award and Abdul Shakoor of Al Futtaim Honda won the award for the best wicketkeeper.
