Dominate hosts Qatar in straight sets 25-18, 25-10, 25-8
Doha: The UAE won another medal in the 12th Arab Games yesterday, taking the bronze in the women's volleyball by beating hosts Qatar 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-8).
Egypt and Algeria will compete for the gold tomorrow.
"It is a pleasant moment," Shaikha Shamsa Bint Hasher Al Maktoum, the supervisor of the team, said yesterday. "And it is a big achievement for the women's sport movement in the UAE as this team is taking part in its first Arab Games and marked the occasion by winning a medal.
"I do hope that this medal will help in spreading the game ... and attract the attention of the officials in GAYSW [General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare] to increase their support to women's volleyball as ... promised by Secretary General Ebrahim Abdul Malek." The team: Fatima Hassan, Alya Hassan, Kalaitham Rahma, Mona Abbass, Nadia Ali, Mona Abdullah, Fatima Ali, Rawdha Hassan, Amal Salem and Rawiya Bakhit.
