Dubai: Triathletes from across the UAE are gearing up for the 2016/17 Oceanic Triathlon Series, which starts in Khor Fakkan on October 21.

Following the success of the first series earlier this year, organisers have opened registration for a second series with three races. Each race in the series will see over 200 triathletes compete for a spot on the podium with an overall ‘Oceanic Triathlon Champion’ announced at the final race on April 14, 2017.

The 2016/17 Oceanic Triathlon Series will be offering two race distances: the short course consisting of a 800-metre swim, 30-kilometre cycle and a seven-kilometre run; and the super sprint consisting of a 375-metre swim, 12-kilometre cycle and a 2.5-kilometre run.

For both distances, triathletes will swim in the Oceanic Hotel’s natural bay, cycle through the rolling hills of Khor Fakkan arriving at transition in the Oceanic Hotel grounds ahead of the final part of the triathlon. Triathletes will then run through the stunning Khor Fakkan Corniche returning to the Oceanic Hotel where they will cross the finish line.

Race director Trace Rogers said: “Since launching the Oceanic Triathlon earlier this year, we have seen the numbers grow and we are extremely excited about the second series. Not only are we offering our competitive athletes a beautiful course to race on, we are also catering for those who are new to triathlons as well as for children as young as ten.”

As part of the event, the Oceanic Hotel is offering participants an exclusive accommodation package for the weekend of the race. Triathletes will be able to stay on a room-only basis from only Dh500.
