Fujairah: A badminton tournament organised by the Dibba Youth Club got a huge response as dozens of players participated in the event held last Friday.

More than 15 teams from across Fujairah took part in the tournament which also attracted a huge crowd from the local Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian communities, said Mohammad Sajjad, organiser of the event.

The tournament was won by the Bangladeshi pair of Ali Noor and Mohammad Abul Hussain. Second place went to Shahrian Farhad and Mohammad Sajjad from Pakistan.

First step

"This is the first step taken to bring sports alive in the small town of Dibba," said president of Dibba Youth Club, Shahrian Shajahan.

Prizes were given to the winners at the end of the tournament.

Some 38 medals were awarded to the participating players.

Duraid Khan, managing director of Sweet Homes, the official sponsor, gave away the prizes to the winners and runner up teams.

"We are looking forward to more such sports events to be held by the Dibba Youth Club as they are essential to adopt a healthy lifestyle," he said.
