Dubai: At a time when great emphasis is laid on a safe and secure event, the Events Security Committee of Dubai Police have ensured a smooth and successful hosting of the Fifth Dubai International Parachuting Championship (DIPC).

After ten days, the competition concluded at the Skydive Dubai drop zone on Saturday and Colonel Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Deputy Director, General Department, Dubai Police, was a relaxed man.

“There is a methodology in the way we operate. We involve all major departments during the planning stages as they are in the best position to give us their inputs. We set targets for each of them and we ensure these targets are implemented by the departments concerned,” Col Al Merri told Gulf News.

“The end result has to be the creation of a safe and secure environment to conduct the competition,” he added.

The Events Security Committee was created by Dubai Police in 2008 and one of their first assignments was the opening of The Atlantis Palm. “Since then we have worked closely with all concerned and we are proud to say that this championship has ended with zero casualties,” said First Lieutenant Mohammad Eid Balabed.

“Most often people do not realise the efforts that go into organising a safe and secure event, and we are here to assure everyone that Dubai is the safest place in the world today,” he added.
