Dubai: Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, has called for an urgent integration of the country's youth, particularly from the university sector, to boost the sports sector in the country.

"There is a need for a proper integration of our youth into the nation's sports and education mainstream," Shaikh Nahyan told Gulf News.

Shaikh Nahyan, who attended the final of the 1st Zayed University Polo Cup on Friday, stressed the need for uplifting sports, especially in the higher education sector, so that the youth can enter the mainstream and contribute to national interests.

International level

"We would love to see our youth from the various universities in the country raise their level of competition and represent the UAE at the international level as well," Shaikh Nahyan said.

Shaikh Nahyan, who was the chief guest in his capacity as President of Zayed University, said that his belief in sports as a unifying medium goads him to push sports at the university level. "We believe that sports is one of the main activities that brings people together to deal with each on an equal footing, irrelevant of where they come from or their colour, culture or background.

"Sports is a noble activity that unifies and allows people to work together as a team and in academics too we can apply these principles of collective responsibility, helping others and all for a cause of making this world a better place to live in," Shaikh Nahyan said.

"We are doing our part in helping out promotion of sports in the UAE. We see this aspect as our responsibility and we are paying attention in this sector as this brings out the best from a human being and makes this world a much better place to live in." he added.
