Doha: The UAE swimming team won 15 medals — eight gold, four silver and three bronze — at the 25th GCC Swimming Championship being in Qatar.

This makes the UAE team runner-up to Qatar with a difference of five golds, and thus the closest it has ever been to obtaining the GCC title in the championship’s history.

Yaaqub Al Sa’adi from Al Ain Swimming Club succeeded in achieving a new personal best in the 200 metres backstroke with a time of 1 min 58.34 sec, while he also achieved another personal record by winning three gold medals.

Ahmad Al Hosani was awarded the gold medal in the 50 metres freestyle, while silver went to Mohammad Jasem.

Mubarak Salem won gold medals for 50 and 100 metres breaststroke, while Mohammad Al Gaferi won gold medals in the 50 metres backstroke and 50 metres butterfly.
