Abu Dhabi: Kuwaiti brothers, Abdul Rahman and Ahmad Fahad Al Badr dominated the 200 metre breaststroke race in the third day of the GCC Swimming Championships, finishing first and second respectively to add a gold and a silver to their country's medal haul.

Abdul Rahman finished in 2 minutes and 27.78 seconds while his brother Ahmad made 2 minutes and 30.17 seconds. Sufian Yousuf, from Bahran, finished third in 3 minutes and 11.83 seconds for the bronze to win his country's first medal in the event.

Kuwait also won the gold medal of the 50 metre backstroke with Abdula Ali finishing the race in 27.23 seconds. The UAE's Olympian swimmer Obaid Ahmad Al Jasmi came second in 28.98 seconds and his countryman Mohammad Abdulla won the bronze with 29.20 seconds.

Youngest stars

In the 200 metre medlay for under 10 years, Mohammad Salah from Kuwait won the gold medal while Saudi Arabian Ali Al Sadig won the silver and Omani Abdul Rahman Yahya the bronze.

Meanwhile, eight GCC records were broken in the first two days of the tournament with Kuwait having the lion's share.

Marzoug Faisal Al Salem broke the record time of the 400 metre freestyle for men registering 4 minutes and 4.17 seconds breaking the 4 minutes and 4.23 seconds record of his countryman Nawaf Ali.

Relay results

Mohammad Ahmad Mandooh, also from Kuwait, broke his own record times in the 100 and 50 metre freestyle events, while compatriot Abdulla Ali Al Thwaini broke the 100 and 200 metre backstroke events. and broke two records.

And Kuwait relay team broke the 4x200 metre freestyle relay record as well as the 4x100 medlay, both record replacing earlier one set by Kuwait.

Badr Al Muhanna of Saudi Arabia registered a new record for the 50 metre butterfly registering 25.40 seconds and breaking the old record of 25.64 seconds of Kuwaiti Mansour Emad Al Mansour.
