Dubai: Yo!, Madmax and Irene finished among the leaders after the three-race first round of the Pal Zileri-Carrera Sailing Cup at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club.

Due to last week's inclement weather, the high performance IRC Division 1 and 2 classes were offered a standard windward-leeward course with a leeward gate, while the Corinthian class was given a longer reaching course.

Yo!, on 27 points, are on top of Division I six points clear of second-placed pair of Tazotoo and Pal Zileri. Ijuba and Team Duboats are tied-fourth on 13.

Madmax lead Division II having secured 42 points from their first three races, with Tisaheel2 and Jollyjumper on 35 and 34 in second and third place respectively.

The Corinthian event was won by Irene, with Goan Bananas and Al Awal finishing second and third in that order.

The second round of the Pal Zileri-Carrera Sailing Cup takes place on March 30.

Giancarlo, one of the crew members of the Pal Zileri team, said: "The keel of the boat was modified and the hull strengthened, so she is a very different yacht to sail this year."
