The UAE national Optimist sailing squad has been sharpening their skills at their external training camp in Lake Garda, Italy.

"We have been able to concentrate on our flaws and iron them out to a certain extent," Sid Bensalah, Team Manager of the UAE national Optimist squad, told Gulf News from Lake Garda.

"The team has been training hard and working towards making themselves technically sound as they eye the new season," Bensalah stated.

Besides regular training and physical fitness, the UAE youngsters have been undergoing simulation sessions indoors.

"They have been enjoying this bit as the simulation gives their young minds the opportunity to get a better understanding of coping with race conditions," Bensalah said.

However, the weather has not been too favourable for the sailors.

"But we've managed to keep them occupied with allied activities in an attempt to get them geared up for the new season.

"There's something to learn all the time. The good thing is that our sailors have been making the best of their time in training," Bensalah added.

The UAE squad is scheduled to return to Dubai later this week.
