The sixth heat of the traditional 22 ft dhow sailing race will be held off the Mina Seyahi waters today.

More than 50 dhows will compete against each other today before the overall winner is decided on a points-based system.

In particular, with this category race, is the Al Khayour turn buoy which becomes the deciding factor irrespective of the race course.

The distance is approximately 2.5 nautical miles from the start to the finish buoy, including the Al Khayour turn buoy.

The last few heats have seen tremendous competition between the experienced crew and the amateurs.

Competition in this category is tough especially with the Al Khayour turn buoy. "This year's teams have several youngsters participating and this is a good sign as they are learning about their tradition at a young age," stated Saeed Hareb, Managing Director of Dubai International Marine Club. Of prime importance to the crew of the dhows will be the display of skill and talent.

"The most feared among the sailors is the Al Khayour turn as this will test the best among the participants. And making things worse for them will be the manoeuvrability of the boats due to the wind and rough waters," added Hareb.

Weather conditions are expected to be favourable and sea swells are expected to decrease considering it has been pretty rough over the last few weeks.

The competitors will love the weather conditions and go all out to put their skills and talent to the test.
