Lloyds Team confident of good display in Maktoum

Dubai: With a well-deserved second place in the recent Jumeirah Regatta, the Lloyds TSB Sailing Team, helmed by skipper Francis Carr, has their sights firmly set on the Maktoum Sailing Trophy, from February 25 to 29.
Carr, a previous winner of the trophy in the Beneteau 44.7 'Faith', believes his team can only improve.
"I'd estimate the team's performance over the two days of the Jumeirah Regatta as around 85 per cent," said Carr.
"We got a lot of things right, but the team would agree there were a couple of crucial aspects in each of the three races where had we made a different decision, or performed as well as we can, our times would have been dramatically different."
The Lloyds TSB Sailing Team is an experienced, amateur team that will come up against some of the world's best sailors in the Maktoum Sailing Trophy, a five-race day series off Dubai's coastline.
"Yacht racing in Dubai is becoming highly competitive and with events like the Jumeirah Regatta and race series like the Maktoum Sailing Trophy, the profile of Dubai's yacht racing scene is increasing among local, regional and international audiences," said Carr.
This year's Maktoum Trophy promises will have the largest fleet yet, with boats and crews from around the globe.
Dubai, with its name firmly on the sailing calendar, traditionally has ideal sailing conditions with constant winds of around 8-14 knots.
The Lloyds Team, being one of the larger faster boats, will be hoping for some strong winds, which will make for some challenging and exciting sailing for both crew and spectators.
